03-07-2019

The ground-breaking ceremony on Monday, February 18th, officially starts the construction work for the new logistics and distribution center for PUMA in which it will be operated by BLG LOGISTICS.

Beginning in 2020, the fashion and sporting goods manufacturer, PUMA, will have access to a highly complex, multi-channel system with a high level of automation, forward-looking shuttle technology and goods-to-human workplaces on an area of approximately 30 acres.

The cooperation between PUMA and BLG LOGISTICS began in early 2017. The BLG Group prevailed in a tendering process to design and manage the logistics operation.  In addition to the future operation, BLG is also responsible for the overall project contract.

Frank Dreeke, CEO of BLG LOGISTICS GROUP AG & Co. KG: „It is a very nice confirmation for us that we can make our experience available to PUMA on the basis of a long-term partnership.“

Over the years, the BLG Group has accumulated extensive experience and know-how in the fields of e-commerce and fashion logistics, and has continuously expanded this knowledge to an increasing number of customers and locations. In Contract Logistics, BLG LOGISTICS operates in logistics centers and specialized facilities at more than 40 locations in Europe and overseas.

The new multi-channel system will install over 70,000 feet of conveyor technology. There, more than 120,000 items with 480 shuttle vehicles are moved.

„We are aware that this project is of great importance to our customer PUMA because it represents a milestone for its future development,“ emphasizes Jens Wollesen, BLG LOGISTICS Managing Director responsible for Contract Logistics. „We are very pleased that we were able to support this project from the beginning and were able to actively shape the concept phase together with PUMA.“

BLG LOGISTICS has been operating the current PUMA logistics center in Schlüsselfeld since autumn 2018. The employees working there will be transferred to the new plant in neighboring Geiselwind. In total, around 300 jobs will be created there.

Partner in the realization of the plant are the owner-managed real estate company Dietz AG, the leading international provider of intralogistics solutions TGW and Inconso.
